Surgical Technology Level I introduces foundational knowledge and skills required for entry-level practice in hospitals and surgical centers as a surgical technologist. This course provides an introduction to preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties and knowledge. Emphasis is placed on aseptic technique, infection prevention, surgical instrumentation, patient care concepts and professional responsibilities in preparation for clinical application. Surgical pharmacology and aspects of medical law related to the healthcare setting are introduced. Upon completion, the student will have a beginning understanding of the role of the surgical technologist and will be prepared to enroll in SUR 3020- Level II.

Surgical Technology Level II builds upon foundational knowledge with advanced surgical procedures, specialty instrumentation, operative pharmacology and complex patient care concepts. Emphasis is placed on clinical competency and preparation for the national certification examination to prepare the student as Tech in Surgery- Certified.  Upon completion, the student will have the knowledge to sit for industry-recognized certifications.
