Program Overview

Prehospital emergency medical care is a rapidly evolving healthcare profession in which Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agency personnel provide basic and advanced life-saving care. Today’s EMS healthcare system is highly sophisticated and expanding to work within other healthcare profession.

All branches of EMS providers may work with volunteer fire and rescue agencies in which hours and requirements vary by agency.

EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics are employed full time at 40+ hours per week with EMS agencies, emergency departments, and/or other healthcare facilities.

Typical work shifts are 12-24 hours depending on the agency/department and may include overnight and weekends.
