This course gives you the skills you need to become a successful and flexible medical assistant—someone who can help out in many different parts of a healthcare office. You’ll learn how to handle both front desk tasks and hands-on clinical work.
Some of the main topics include:
How the body works (Anatomy & Physiology)
Medical words and terms (Medical Terminology)
Office procedures and patient paperwork
Medications (Pharmacology)
Lab work and drawing blood (Phlebotomy)
Clinical skills and minor medical procedures
Medical laws, ethics, and communication
You’ll also get real-world experience through a required clinical externship. After finishing the course, you’ll be ready to take certification exams that are recognized in the medical industry.
Clinical Medical Assistant Program Policies:
• Our clinical sites require a criminal background check and urine drug screen. The current cost is $98.00. This price is subject to change. Failure to obtain a urine drug screen on the designated day will result in dismissal from the Clinical Medical Assistant program. It is at the discretion of the clinical site, not the college, to determine if students are eligible to attend clinical based on the results of their criminal background check and urine drug screen. If your criminal background check/urine drug screen leads to ineligibility, you will be dismissed from the program.
• In rare instances, clinical sites or classroom dates may vary from your schedule. These are rare and usually occur because of instructor emergency or inclement weather. You must have a flexible schedule. Refunds are not given for schedule changes that students cannot accommodate. Make-up days, such as in the case of inclement weather, will be made up at the discretion of your instructor.
• The attendance policy is very strict. Students may only miss twelve (12) classroom hours, and only (1) clinical day. Any clinical hours missed must be made up hour for hour regardless of the reason and at the discretion of the instructor.
• Students will have multiple choice quizzes throughout the Clinical Medical Assistant program. In order for students to move forward to the clinical portion of the program, students must have an 80 average on all quizzes. Failure to achieve an 80 average will result in dismissal from the Clinical Medical Assistant program. Your instructor will counsel you throughout the program if there is a problem with your quiz grades. Retakes will be given at the discretion of your instructor.

• Being disrespectful, rude, interruptive, disruptive, or showing impatient behavior toward the instructors, fellow classmates, staff, patients, or clinical staff will NOT be tolerated at anytime. Students who display this type of behavior will be dismissed from the program.
• Students may be dismissed if their instructor suspects that the student is a safety risk in clinical due to physical or behavioral issues.
• Cell phones are prohibited in the classroom and clinical sites. In the case of an emergency, students may talk to their instructor and the situation will be dealt with on an individual basis.
